About
Derivation
Original work by the author, these tutorials were developed mainly over a two year span when they were tried and tested at times in USA university computer studies courses delivered by the author online (DE) from Europe.
More than one-hundred-and-fifty, upper division students have used these tutorials as a part of their university course-work successfully before this publication. The tutorials took them from rudimentary abilities in HTML to XHTML and CSS validity swiftly.
Purpose
The tutorials are designed to advance students quickly from invalid, rudimentary HTML into valid, robust XHTML and valid, proficient CSS — both according to W3C validation standards.
Timeline
- The DOM tutorial was published much earlier (2003) — just as an experiment in publication.
- The XHTML and CSS tutorials follow now (Sept. 2008), tried and tested. They are the core tutorials.
- (An XHTML frameset tutorial will join the core tutorials here as soon as its presentation is adapted for publication.)
- Plans are underway to adapt the core tutorials for teaching in Second Life — to experiment with the delivery of this sort of material within an interactive, 3-D environment of virtual worlds. Contact the author for more information.
