• XHTML version 1.0

  XHTML version 1.0 has three Document Type Definitions (DTDs).

  We may say simply, there are three kinds of XHTML 1.0.

  The aim of each is indicated in the name:

  • XHTML-strict

    (aim)

    XHTML-strict is, well, strict. It is the most exacting. It demands construction with vanguard (forefront) elements.

  • XHTML-transitional

    (aim)

    XHTML-transitional is loose. It allows some deprecated HTML habits.

  • XHTML-frameset

    (aim)

    XHTML-frameset is for layouts with frames.
